MATTRESS FAQS

MATTRESS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We don’t think about our mattress very often but our mattress is one of the most important items we own.  Other than your shoes your mattress gets more daily use than anything you own.  So if a mattress is SO important why do we not care better for it and replace it when it is time?

WHY WE HATE TO SHOP FOR A NEW MATTRESS?
Shopping for a new mattress can be the most confusing, embarrassing and least fun thing to do.  Every website tells you something different, each component has a different name and how can you really compare?  Which is the better quality and value and does their firm mean the same as your firm?  And so many sites seems to be somehow rated #1.  When shopping in store how can you relax and concentrate on what you need with a strange salesman watching over you while several strangers walk by looking at you as you’re lying there feeling awkward?

SOLUTION:
At our Factory Showroom here in Boise we try to take all of the confusion out of this most difficult task for you.  With a few simple questions about your mattress history and possible current sleep issues we can quickly narrow it down to approximately 3 choices (all of our mattresses are made for different needs or problems and we’ve been doing this a long, long time).  The more mattresses you lay on the more they will all start to feel the same.  Once we find the two or three models that best fit your comfort requirements and after we answer all of your questions we :  leave you alone to go back and forth between the models and privately compare notes with each other.  We will tell you to try to relax, close your eyes, and lay how you would normally position to fall asleep at night AND LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.  If we have other customers we try to give you your area of the showroom to relax.  If you are really uncomfortable and need guaranteed privacy we can arrange a private showroom experience for you.  That is how we did it during the pandemic and everyone loved it!  And remember, since we are the factory we can always adjust the mattress firmer or softer down the road if you needs change!

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE LIFE OF A MATTRESS?
It naturally depends on the quality of the mattress and the care given to it but a good life of a mattress is 7 – 10 years.  If a mattress is well built and has been cared for and you are still comfortable you can go longer.  But if you’ve had it for the 7 – 10 years and you’re not comfortable anymore then either your mattress is wearing out or your body and needs have changed since your purchase.  Also body weight and sleeping positions may affect the life for you.  A heavier body can contribute to sagging sooner and a side sleeper may find pressure points on their hips or shoulders that are needing addressed.  A good mattress protector helps keep your mattress clean and healthy as well.

HOW TO MAINTAIN AND CARE FOR A MATTRESS.
A mattress gets an awful lot of use, 6 to 8 hours every night.  Again, other than your shoes what other item do you use that much?  The comfort layers are being crushed for that many hours every night and then are expected to rebound the next morning.  If a mattress is built right it will have resilient products in the comfort layers but even then they need a rest after so long.  This is why it is important to move your mattress at least every 3 months.  If it is a non-flip model then turn it head to toe every 3 months.  If your mattress can be flipped over then alternate between flipping and turning head to toe.  If you don’t turn your mattress then even the best built mattress will lose its resilience in that area.

WHAT IS THE BEST MATTRESS FOR A SIDE SLEEPER?
When sleeping on your side your hips and shoulders will be the most impacted or sensitive.  Softer and thicker comfort layers are used to create the amount of pressure relief you need but we design these models to still offer correct spinal alignment.  A hybrid model is often the go to mattress for pressure points.

WHAT IS THE BEST MATTRESS FOR A BAD BACK?
All backs are different and need different approaches but typically a back needs proper support.  Latex is the very best tool for back pain as it naturally contours to your body offering total support to your spine while cradling the pressure points.  Memory foam will also contour and support your lower back and combining these two products together can often create the perfect solution to back pain and pressure point issues.

WHAT IS THE BEST MATTRESS FOR A STOMACH SLEEPER?
Typically a stomach sleeper will prefer a firmer mattress so that they won’t feel too much of a sway in the curve of their back while sleeping.  We can still create a little comfort padding if you need to sleep on your side part of the night or we do offer firmer if desired.  How firm a stomach sleeper may want could also depend on their body weight.

ONE SERVICE THAT LEISURE MATTRESS HAS ALWAYS OFFERED here in Boise is the ability to adjust your mattress down the road for you if your body or needs change.  What happens if you buy a new mattress and then 5 years later find you are now needing a firmer or softer mattress?  In most cases you are back out shopping for a new mattress.  If it’s our mattress we can adjust it for you! *
